Deep Fried Mars Bar

Of course no Scotsman’s cookbook could be complete without the artery blocking
recipe that is the deep fried Mars Bar. The recipe of course can be varied by using
different chocolate bars, with seasonal variations of Cream Egg at Easter, Hershey
Bars for that Super bowl party or Milk Tray for that extra special Valentines Day
meal. This is one of the most versatile recipes being able to be served as starter,
main or dessert, or all three if you are particularly brave.

INGREDIENTS
1 Mars Bar (Regular for starter, king size for main course.)
110g/ 4oz plain flour
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp oil
150m/ ¼ pint sparkling water or light beer
1 large egg
METHOD
1) Chill Mars Bar in fridge.
2) Pre heat beef dripping in deep fryer to 180C / 350F.
3) Sift flour and salt.
4) Make a well in centre of flour.
5) Pour water or beer and oil into well and mix in the flour.
6) Beat the egg and fold into the batter.
7) Remove wrapper from Mars Bar.
8) Completely coat Mars Bar in Batter.
9) Carefully lower coated Mars Bar into pre heated beef dripping.
10) Fry until batter is golden brown.
11) Remove and drain on absorbent paper. (We should always be health conscious in or
cooking.)
12) Serve with a crisp green salad for a starter, chipped potatoes for a main course
or ice cream for a dessert.
